Most Africans see depression as something minor, it's not. I battled depression a few years back and I still have to fight it sometimes, many people aren't lucky enough to come out of it alive or better.
I passed through a lot of phases that my parents couldn't understand and when I asked to see a psychologist, my parents took me to see a pastor. I won't blame them now, they're both educated yeah but that 'African mentality' is still there and you can't really handle what you don't understand now, can you?
That had to be the hardest period of my life and I've heard of people who didn't quite come out of depression "normal".
People who go through these phases, have to fight suicidal thoughts almost everyday and some days are worse than others.
I'd advice you to read more on depression, you might not be depressed but it'd help to know, knowledge is important and you may be able to help someone going through depression.
